A Walk to the Lake

I've had a bad case of blogger's block lately. Things that have been on my mind lately are just too political and controversial and I try to keep that off this blog. So I decided to take an ordinary event and document it.

One of my favorite things about where we live is the nearby lake. It's about a 10 minute walk from our house and has both a boat access (we don't own a boat but the boys love the dock) and a small public beach. The boys ask to go to the beach every day as soon as the snow melts! Usually Jeremiah brings them but tonight we all took a walk down there.

A while ago, the boys found that digging in the sand releases some kind of dark mud. They would sit for hours if they could making "poop water".

Freaky Friday

Photobucket

This power wheels truck has been acting up. Twice over the last week it has started beeping in the middle of the night. Constant beeping similar to a car alarm. It's interesting because a.) it doesn't stop even when you disconnect the battery, and b.) the horn doesn't even work.

Anyway, I told the boys about this the other day and they were intrigued yet skeptical. How did I know it was coming from the truck? Maybe it was a dream ect...

Well, this morning they had a chance to hear it for themselves. Elijah accompanied me to the garage to check it out. When it finally stopped and we were leaving the garage Elijah said to me "It's probably demons. They do this stuff all the time."

There you have it, the expert opinion of our resident demonologist.

I talked to the boys a little about old wires and how they can short out and stuff because I certainly don't want them losing sleep at night worrying about the demon truck.

Now, if it starts beeping some kind of freaky melody or something, then I will be worried.

Ewww

Today I stepped on a snake. It was very much alive. I was taking Mary Jane for a walk and I stepped on what felt like a very large worm. I turned around and there was a little brown snake, about a foot long I guess, flicking it's little tongue at me in protest. I'm pretty sure it was one of these. After that, every little stick looked like a snake to me.

Of course, my first thought was how I couldn't wait to tell the boys about this.

Pigtails

As usual, none of the men in this house shared my enthusiasm for such girly things as pigtails ("those look like dog ears"), so I have to turn to the internet to share my excitement.

Track and Field Day

Somehow overnight we went from an 81% chance of rain all day to partly cloudy skies instead so our homeschool track and field day wasn't rained out after all! I'm so glad because it was a lot of fun! Isaac and Elijah were the only two able to participate in the events (you have to be at least 5). Jeremiah and I took turns helping with the softball throw and watching the younger ones while cheering the boys on in their events. The boys didn't place in anything but that didn't seem to bother them in the least.

Pet Flies and More

  • For a few hours today Sammy had a pet fly. Thankfully, he grew bored of it and let it go outside. This is the same guy who grabbed some chap stick the other day and told me he was going to "put his lips on".
  • Our laptop is still not working. It looks like we will be without it for an indefinite period of time. It really doesn't bother me. If it did, I would be more diligent about fixing the problem.
  • Sadie is almost walking. She can stand and keep her balance really well and has taken a step here and there.
  • It's time for Jonah to get potty trained. I've been dragging my feet on this. I've been through this three times already but that doesn't mean it's going to be fun or any easier.
  • It took me days to catch up on blogs when we returned home last week. Seriously...days.
  • I really don't like coming downstairs to this computer. My sewing machine is only a few feet away and if it could talk it would say "If your gonna be down here, wouldn't you rather be over here?" And I would have to say "Yes, yes I would."
  • Looks like the boys track and field day is going to be rained out tomorrow. Bummer. At least I never even mentioned it to them so they don't know what they are missing.
  • Anybody see the new Indiana Jones movie?
