Cool Site and More

I was randomly blog surfing tonight, and at this blog I learned about this site called Dailylit.com. You can have books sent little by little to your email every day. These are books that are public domain, which includes many of the classics. I signed up for Oliver Twist, Don Quixote and Wuthering Heights. It will take several months to read them, but that's fine.

This evening, I saw Animal Planet was airing The Ugliest Dog in the Nation Contest. I thought the boys might enjoy it so we tuned in. I think the concept went over Elijah's head. He took one look at the first dog and recoiled a bit and said "but it's not cute".

Yesterday, we turned our heat on for the first time this year. I hate turning on the heat before October, but it was just too cold. I turned the thermostat up and waited...and waited...and waited. I must of checked the furnace 10 times. Was I missing something? Was it even making noise? Anything? I could already see our trip money going to fix the furnace. Finally, when Jeremiah got home I told him I didn't think the furnace was working. "There must be a switch or something here somewhere" he said looking around. "No, there's not, do you know how many times I loo...oh, wait, what's that switch there on the wall?" He flicked it and immediately the furnace fired up. I swear..I swear that switch was not there before!

Parfaits

This weeks Art Project was parfaits, made by layering applesauce and graham cracker crumbs. I bought flavored applesauce to add some color. The boys enjoyed smashing the graham crackers and thought the parfaits were yummy. In case you haven't noticed the pattern, the first theme of our Art book is "Art in the kitchen".
 

Monday

It's definately Fall. We had cold #1 sweep thru our family and it was a nasty one. Sam even needed a couple nebulizer treatments. The funny thing is, on Thursday I was browsing the video store while Jeremiah brought the boys to a nearby park. There were several movies I wanted to see (a rarity for me), but I told Jeremiah "no, I have so many better things to spend my time doing than watching movies." Hahaha...What do I spend my weekend doing? Laying around with a headcold.

Today, I started doing some preschool work with Elijah and Samuel. There is a bazillion preschool print-outs you can get offline for free. You should of seen Sammy's face when I told him to come do some school work. He thought he was so cool sitting there doing school like a big boy.

It's going to be October on Sunday! I had to do a double take when I looked at the calendar today. October already?? We're that much closer to our trip!

The season premiere of Seventh Heaven is tonight. I seriously thought they needed to end that show last season...like they did...before they decided to bring it back. I read a spoiler for this season that makes half of me want to watch, and half of me not want to watch.

Mom Laws

Here are a few "mom laws" that i've gotten a refresher course on recently:

1. If your one year old is happy and content, even singing baby jabber, for more than 60 seconds...check on him! This applies even if he is sitting right behind your chair.
2. As soon as you buy a new sippy cup, the lost one will immediately surface.
3. Four small boys and a kitchen full of white cupboards don't mix.
4. Do Not put their church clothes on them until you are ready to walk out the door.
5. Do not assume that it's clean just because it was in their drawer.
6. Check their bedroom often for food.
7. The baby or the dog always did it (once you learn to talk, your always innocent).
   
8. Eventually, the phrase is it my turn? becomes the equivalent of fingernails on a chalkboard.
   
9. "Mommy, your cool" covers a multitude of sin.
10. Do not buy superhero band-aids unless you want them to be used as stickers.
    

Some of Jonah's First Steps

Swingset

Some neighbors down the road gave us this swingset their grandchildren outgrew. It's not in bad shape, and when the boys get tired of playing on it after a week, at least we didn't spend a dime on it. The surfboard thing is cool, I have never saw one like it.

 

Butter

Today for our Art project we made butter. The boys loved it because it involved lots of shaking. In an era where everything comes from the store, kids are really facinated to see how things are made. Isaac and Jonah enjoyed the butter-milk as an added treat.

I'm really happy that Isaac's curriculm included a book for Art projects. This book is full of fun things that go way beyond construction paper, scissors and glue. I would of never thought about making butter!

All Quiet on the Boystory Front

So I guess things have been quiet around here. Lately, I have been packing a lot into my day and my blog is feeling the repercussion.

Next month we are taking a trip South, and by South I mean SOUTH. We are having a good time planning it, and I can't wait for next month!

Isaac's first week of homeschooling was both good and bad. Phonics and Math are going really good, and he almost always wants to do extra work in these subjects. He is sounding out words with so much more ease this year. He loves to learn about the animals in his Nature reader. However, bring out the History and Science and his eyes glaze over. I can't blame him because mine do to. I'm going to be searching for some supplements to these subjects. After all, our goal is not to simply plod thru some texts, but to ignite genuine interest and desire to learn these subjects.

Jonah has finally decided that walking might be something he wants to do. This boy had no interest in walking what-so-ever. He could stand by himself all day long, but would never attempt a step. I figured being our fourth, he would of been walking well before a year, but nope he decided to be our latest walker. I love seeing how excited the other boys get when he takes a step. Judging by them, you would think he was the first baby ever to start walking.

Robin Cook has a new book out, and I really really want to read it, but i'm going to wait for our trip.

I think i'm ready to start making my own clothes patterns. I'm really excited about this and I keep asking Jeremiah what he is going to do next year when i'm gone for Project Runway :D

Schooling Funny

Today Isaac was taking a practice spelling test. Sammy was sitting at the table with us coloring. Things were moving slow so I told Isaac to "finish up so we can go to the next word". Sammy looked up from his coloring and asked "Can I come?"
