Olympics
I think Michael Phelp's mom got more t.v face time than half the Olympians.
A 33 year old gymnast won a bronze medal on the vault...how cool is that? Not to mention the 38 year Romanian woman who won the marathon, and Dara Torres the 41 year old swimmer.
I just saw a headline that spoiled an event I was going to watch tonight. I have to say, though, Yahoo headlines has been pretty good this time about not declaring winners unless you click to read the article.
I love that NBC has Bella Karolyi commentate on gymnastics. He is so entertaining...when you can understand him.
Why do gymnasts still wear scunchies?
I managed to catch the trampoline gymnastics finals last night. That sport just looks too fun to be, well, a sport.
I was so wondering about the gymnasts & the scrunchies as well! Though it seemed to be a lot of Romanian girls... maybe they are still in style in Romania?
LOL I wondered that about the scrunchies and I also wondered why they didn't wear matching barrettes? I mean they like wear 3 different styles of barrettes along with the scrunchie. What's up with that?
I've totally been cheering for the older athletes as well! So awesome!
I too saw a headline spoiler this morning and cursed myself for wanting the forecast... also agree about Yahoo.. must stick with them for the forecast from now on!
Love Bella! So fun. The first night he was on, J laughed and said "Is he Romanian??" We had a friend in CA that J worked with who was Romanian. I said "Yes, actually." At least we have no trouble understanding him! lol
I was wondering about the scrunchies too! And the barretts. Wouldn't they brow their hair out so they wouldn't need the barretts? Makes a little more sense :)
I never did get to see that trampoline stuff. The Olympics did bring to my son's attention that there are males in gymnastics, which I had always "lied" about to try to divert his interest to a more manly sport (I'm sorry, I can't help it, maybe if they would change the uniforms like they did in swimming it wouldn't be such a big deal!)
I watched a bit of the trampoline too...it was amazing! I haven't really watched a whole lot of the Olympics...mostly because I've been going to be so early!
I hate the shiny material on those gymnastic outfits. One girl looked like she was wearing a skin tight black garbage back....and they need to figure out updates to the hair. Bella is funny. I told Daniel that when he is beating Phelps's record they will show me in the stands talking about how he hated water when he was little, but now look at him...I will have to have big hair in honor of her;-) I am amazed by that runner Bolt. I love watching the athletes when they are purly happy about winning (or even having a best time). I LOVE the fact that I have CBC....Canadian commentators are so oooooo much better than the US counterparts......also for some reason I don't like Bob Costas....don't know why but he just bugs me. Sorry for the blog jack, but I have been meaning to write about all this same stuff, LOL!
I enjoyed the swimming - you guys must have barracked louder for your fella in the 1500. But lately when I turn on the tv there are bare-ish butts exposed - in beach v.ball, diving, that funny walk they did in the rain today - it's too much! I want my 7 year old to enjoy sports without being exposed to too much "muchness"...
Naomi, I am with you on the too muchness. I always think that the bit of bare-ish butt showing looks ridiculous somehow. It would look better either wholly covered or completely bare (though not on national TV!!!)--and frankly I am at an age where I'd rather not see the latter. Then I remember that in the original Olympics the athletes performed in the altogether too muchness! I am glad that I don't have to see that, either!
Funny about Phelp's mom, I was saying the same thing to my hubby last nihgt. I was also telling him how hilaroious it is to watch Bella, he is so animated and enthusiastic. I wish Bella would say something to Bob Costas about that really bad toupe Bob wears. Now THAT would be a great interview. Hellooo? Has he looked in mirror? And I absolutely love the fact that some of the older athletes are doing so well. It isnpires me to get off my a** and do something more physical. I love the Olympics!

We love Bella too! He says it like it is and he's not afraid to say it! :)

If they would have had the trampoline sport back when I was younger I would have been all over that. Very entertaining indeed.

We don't have cable so I haven't seen much, but what is trampoline gymnastics?

Thanks, Amie, for the update!
