Controversial Parenting Topics

First of all, Selkie (a fellow homeschooling mom of 4 boys) communicates my views on punishment better than I would be able to.

I have co-slept with my babies since Isaac was an infant. In fact, we never even put Jonah's basinette or crib together yet. Thats right, we have a 2 month old baby and not a crib to be found in our home. Recently an article (co-sponsered by an association of crib manufactors) claimed that co-sleeping was dangerous and increased the risk of SIDS. I wanted to point out this article to any parents who might of been frightened by that. Not saying everybody needs to co-sleep, just that if its something you are interested in don't let some twisted statistics scare you.

How do you expect your child to be independent? Even in the infant stage. It is better to go ahead and put them in their own crib/bed and let them learn that it is okay to sleep on their own rather than needing a parent to sleep with them. I babysit a 3 yr old and a 5 yr old and when it comes time to go to bed it is the worst. There is always this horrific crying fit and it never gets resolved until the mother gets home. It is too much for the child to handle, and it puts too much pressure on the parent.
