1st Grade

Isaac's first grade materials finally arrived a few days ago. Yesterday, I sat down with the included lesson planner to plan out the year. Administration is one of my strengths so this was big fun for me. We are starting school Sep 5 and ending May 31. Isaac's week will look like this:

Bible, Math and Phonics/Reading - M-F
History, Handwriting - Tues and Thurs
Science - Mon Wed Fri
Art - Wed
Spelling - New words on Monday, test on Friday.

Each day will be approximately 1.5 hours of work. Since the phonics is basically a review of last year, hopefully we will get thru that fast so that can become just reading time. Every other week will include an enrichment day with the homeschool group where classes such as drama, foreign languages ect. are offered. Which reminds me that we bought a 1st grade Spanish workbook that I forgot to add.

That all sounds awesome! (Can I go back to first grade?!) And I'm glad you have such a great homeschooling community there that offers the enrichment days too. I look forward to hearing more about this as you go into the school year.

I only homeschooled 2 of my boys for one year but thought it was amazing how much less time their lessons take versus an actual school day! We loved the flexibility. Unfortunately, there was no strong homeschooling group in our area so I felt the boys were so secluded socially. We also live out in the country which just made things worse. (I was also pg with #4 at the time and so tired!)

That sounds awesome!

I am so seriously considering homeschooling Jacob next year and if we happen to move this year might even do it sooner. I may need to cry for help to get started because I have no earthly idea where to begin. Do you have any good websites, curriculum sites or places I can find a coop you can recommend? Thanks.

What are you using for Spanish? I have been looking for something simple but haven't found something inexpensive and simple. I am going to start it this year too with the kids.

Jamie, are you doing first grade Science, Bible and History? That would be cool if we were using the same things.

Andria, The very first place to go for homeschool resources is Home School Legal Defense. You can look at your state to see what the regulations and things are. They also list homeschool groups, so you might find one in your area. Thats the second thing to do, see if there is a homeschool group in your region .

Risa,
We just got our Spanish at Sam's club. Its a big huge workbook designed for first grade.

Yep, all 1st grade from CLP. Well, right now we're doing K history because I never did it last year...so we won't start the Little Pilgrims until after we're done with this one, which we're already cruising through! We will have to chat with how it goes w/using the same things!

Oh I envy you! I want to homeschool so badly but my husband doesn't agree with it and I don't feel I can do it without his full support. Our children went to Catholic school up until this year because of our move, and so far I am NOT impressed with the public school system here and if my husband would give me the go ahead I would pull them out tomorrow!

I hope you and your children have a wonderful school year!

There's no way I could do something like that. I don't have nearly enough patience for it. But kudos to you for being able to. That's cool.
