Large Family Comebacks
I had a good laugh reading this site yesterday that suggests some comebacks when people comment on your family size. Believe me, I have heard every one listed. My favorite ones:
Are you going to keep going? - Yes we're going to keep going until we get an ugly one.
Haven't you ever heard of birth control? - Oh yes...Thats great stuff for people who have ugly kids.
No, we don't try to overpopulate the earth, just to outnumber the idiots!
Of course, I would never be that snarky in real life, but I can say it in my head.

Love those. I distinctly remember being pregnant with my third. I had one boy, one girl. People would scan over them and then look at me like I was nuts. I could just hear them thinking that if I had one of each why would I have more - as if a baby's gender has anything to do with its existence!!
I happen to agree with the "outnumber the idiots" part...
Tammara,
The "you have one of each, you must be done" comment is one I haven't heard (for obvious reasons). I know lots of people who have though.
I like that!! lol There are so many I will have to write down or print out because I soooo want to say them to someone!!! I am very fond of the comments to the question "are you done yet" and gosh, how many times did I hear "Have you had that baby yet?", to that my response was always "yes, I just left him at home to fend for himself!" I got so sick of that, hello isn't it kind of obvious with a big old belly that I haven't had the baby?? lol Some people are just idiots!!
I am still sorely tempted - the next time someone says "Don't you know what causes that by now?" -to widen my eyes and say innocently "No. What?" I'm a good actress - I could pull it off!
LOL. It is sad that once you have 2 kids people assume you are done. Like you haven't a brain if you have more! I would get so irritated when I'd go to the store when Gabe was a baby and people would look at me in shock and comment how full my hands were! With only 3!!! Can't wait to see what they say if I triple that number!
Hello! I've been lurking for awhile, but I had to comment on this! I come from a big family also (7 kids total) and I've heard many of these things before! There is one we always hear though, of the 7 kids the 6 oldest are girls, so my brother is the youngest and only boy, so we always have people asking if my parents just kept trying until they had a boy! Which they didn't, that's just how it worked out.
Those are awesome - lol...
BTW - I tagged you from my blog tonight - hehe - hope to see your answers
A lot of people ask me if I'm going to keep trying for a girl (I too, have 4 boys) I mean, really, do people think I have children solely because I want a girl?!? Sure, it would be great to experience mothering a daughter...but, I'm thrilled with my boys. I think they're great!
I'd have liked two more kids.. between Kim and Danny. Guess it's too late now but at the time we felt we had all we could handle. Children don't need mountains of toys. Most would rather play with the empty boxes. All they need is love and you have plenty of that to share.
Some people are so clueless. As if having more than two kids is that uncommon.
I only have one child (so far) so I haven't gotten to that stage of clueless comments yet. I just remember all the comments I got while pregnant, like, "Are you having twins?" No, I am not, but thanks for pointing out the fact that I am huge!
Seriously I would recommending responding with a question, such as "why wouldn't we?" and let the other person fumble for a response. It could open up some interesting conversations or opportunities for witness: "Well, it must be expensive!" "That's OK, we're not that materialistic." "(Stunned silence)".
Hey, I'm from the land of Jim and Melissa Duggar, so your four? pfffft. I'd love to have many more, but it doesn't seem in the cards for us, and there must be a reason for that. I try not to question, but I still waaaaant.
Belinda,
LOL, I'll give you that. Compared to the Duggers our family is miniscule!
