Shopping Adventures

A few days ago all of us went grocery shopping like we usually do. As we were walking into the store, a male employee was walking out. He looked at me and Sadie, stopped, held up a little black thing at his eye level for a second, turned around and walked back into the store. I was very creeped out because it appeared this man just took a picture of us! I told Jeremiah that I thought a man just took my picture. I pointed him out and Jeremiah caught up with him half way thru the store t0 ask him about this. He showed Jeremiah the little black thing and it turns out it was a pager. That would explain the sudden stop, holding up and looking at a little black thing (that just happened to be pointed at us) and turning around. I feel much better knowing there is not some weird-o working at this store taking pictures of unknowing people.

What would you do if you thought some stranger just took your picture?

I have thought strangers have taken my picture before! Most of the time I think it's an accident - I live in a touristed city, so I think I'm in zillions of photos. But once, I was in New York with a friend, and someone caught us in a photo. She asked him to erase the photo off his digital camera. but I guess if it's not a digital camera, you couldn't do that!

That would be weird. Glad Jeremiah was there to find out what really happened. You never know these days. I am sure things like that happen all the time without us even knowing about it.
Someone once ran past me and took my picture I think after they thought I looked like that celebrity that I don't like I look anything like. They hoped in a car and sped off and there was nothing I could do. I would have been too afraid to find out what really happened anyway. It's kinda funny actually because now they have these random picture of a stranger, HA!

That would be kind of creepy.....who still uses a pager? When the Superbowl was here we wondered how many pictures we ended up in......"Yep there's John Madden, right there behind that big old pregnant lady"

If I thought someone was taking my picture on purpose, I'd be pretty weirded out by that and might try to ask what they were doing. Of course, if you are in public, people are legally allowed to take your picture and even use your image in many ways without your permission but the ethics of that is always a bit shaky. I have taken photos of kids in public without asking permission (usually I had no idea where or who the parent was) but I usually try to take the photo from behind so you can't identify the child. I have a darling photo of the back of two little boys sitting in dirt watching a Habitat House being built.

I remember when one of our cousins went to China, the people of China were taking pictures of her because she looked like the textbook American girl!

A few years ago, I was home during the day in our old house. The dog started barking, and I looked outside to see an ordinary car stopped on the dirt road in front of the house snapping pictures!

I went right out there (broom in hand) to find out why someone was taking pictures of our house. Turns out that it was for an appraisal for the house next door.

But it's still weird!

Good thing Miah was there! I would be weirded out and if it happened to me and Zach weren't w/me I don't know that I'd do anything...maybe report it to a worker?

That actually DID happen to me, about 10 years ago. I was parking the car at the gym, and this very odd guy stopped right in front of the car and took my picture!! I was completely freaked. I got the kids out and went in, and asked for the manager. The guy was confronted and told not to ever do that again (he SAID he was taking a picture of the car - um, hello??), which didn't keep me from changing my workout time for a while. CREEPY. I'm glad yours wasn't like that! I guess people probably do that all the time now, though, with camera phones all over the place. Hmm.
