Growing Kids Gary Ezzo's Way...
Today in church Jeremiah got cornered about taking the new Growing Kids God's Way class that is starting. He tried to tactfully decline, but eventually had to just come out and say we don't agree with GKGW. Why don't we do GKGW? Click here to find out why.
The thing that bothers me the most is the title: Growing Kids God's Way. As if you are displeasing God if you don't follow this method developed by a man.

I was approached at church today too about the program. I don't agree with it either and don't like the title as well. Thanks for posting the link. It has helped me see other reason why I don't like the program. I like the title of your post, however :D
Yes, its all about having your baby on a strict schedule that you create otherwise your baby is "controlling" you.
Good point about watches ;)
Funny you should say that about watches, cause on the site there is a watch to buy that clocks how long and which side you fed on. It probably has an alarms that sounds when time is up so you can rip your baby off put him down and let him scream! That totally sucks, poor babies. I feel for the ones doing this scheduling program. Breastfeeding is bonding time too not just feeding time. What the heck are they thinking? Sorry, don't want to get to upset here. :D
LOL Melissa.
They do say that your baby can just cry if all his/her physical needs are met. What about emotional needs? Why can't babies just be held because they want to?
Just snooping, but I'm a reformed Babywise'er! I'm so glad you guys took a stand at church. We took the whole class thing with a church group before our first was born. We then proceeded to BURN the manual once our daughter actually came out!
:)
I LOVE the title to this. How completely accurate.
And it would be interesting to know just how this can affect some women's milk supply. I'm so glad I listen to God's voice reflected in my heart when parenting...not Gary Ezzo's. :)
I never did read those books and I'm glad I didn't. I don't think I'd agree with any of it! It's sad that parents see this type of means as necessary. Like Melissa said, a baby certainly nurses for more reasons than just to be fed. I love the bonding that goes into it. And not just with nursing, but in other areas also. Funny how so any Christians see this way of parenting as a good means. I guess we all have our own ways of doing things, but this almost seems cruel. Poor babies!!! They need love and nurturing!!!
Its not as legalistic as you are painting it. The content is good--great even. I agree with 95% of what the Ezzos teach. What's wrong with scheduling? It doesn't mean cruelty. It doesn't mean I let my baby cry it out when she clearly needs me. The scheduling is not as strict as you all are accusing here.
Yes, there are things I disagree with in the class, but I can take or leave those things. God help the parent who doesn't schedule. I'm not sure when you sleep...
